"Refined retail audio that complements a world-class shopping experience."
Overview
Caspari, known for their beautifully curated stationery, gifts, and entertaining essentials, required a sound system that reflected the elegance and attention to detail their brand is known for.
TES designed a discreet, high-quality distributed audio system that fills the retail space with warm, inviting sound without ever competing with the products on display.
The Challenge
Caspari is a boutique retail environment built around beautiful objects. The stationery, gifts, and entertaining essentials they carry are presented with the kind of careful merchandising attention that makes browsing the store feel like an experience in itself. Warm wood floors, thoughtfully arranged displays, and a curated aesthetic that extends to every surface of the space: none of it left room for visible speaker grilles, equipment racks, or any hardware that would read as an intrusion into the environment the brand had carefully constructed. The audio challenge compounded the visual one. A boutique retail environment at the quality level Caspari operates requires sound that works at genuinely low volume. Most audio systems are engineered and calibrated for performance at mid to high output levels, where drivers operate efficiently and frequency response is relatively balanced. At the quiet, ambient levels appropriate for a space where customers are browsing and consulting with staff, many systems sound thin, harsh, or tonally uneven. The brief for this project was not just invisible speakers but a system that sounded as refined at low volume as the store itself looked.
Our Solution
Speaker selection for the Caspari installation was driven first by form factor and visual profile, then by acoustic performance. We specified compact, architecturally discreet speakers designed to integrate into ceiling and wall surfaces without the visible grille presence that most commercial speaker installations produce. Finish and trim options were matched to the interior palette so that even on close inspection the speakers read as part of the architecture rather than additions to it. The acoustic performance requirement shaped every subsequent decision. Speakers chosen for visual discretion are not always the same speakers that perform well at low volume, and in this case finding components that excelled at both required more selective specification than a standard retail audio project. The selected units deliver rich, full-range sound at conversational levels, with the warmth and tonal balance in the low and mid frequencies that makes ambient music feel present without being intrusive. System calibration was completed specifically for low-volume listening. This is a distinct process from standard calibration, which optimizes output at reference levels. We tuned the system's frequency response and dynamic behavior at the actual operating volumes the store uses, ensuring that what customers hear on a quiet Tuesday afternoon is as warm and balanced as what plays during a busy holiday weekend. Streaming audio integration gives staff simple source and playlist control without any technical complexity.
Services Provided
System design prioritizing visual invisibility and low-volume tonal performance for a high-end retail environment where aesthetic integrity is non-negotiable.
Compact architectural speakers integrated into ceiling and wall surfaces with finish-matched trim, minimizing visible hardware presence throughout the store.
System calibration performed specifically at the ambient operating volumes used in the store, ensuring warmth, clarity, and tonal balance at genuinely quiet listening levels rather than reference output.
Streaming source integration with simple staff control for playlist and volume management without technical complexity or dedicated hardware interfaces.
Component selection and placement process that treated visual integration as the primary constraint, with acoustic performance requirements met within those parameters rather than in spite of them.
The Result
Caspari's sound system is invisible in the way that all great retail audio should be: customers are aware of the atmosphere it creates without being aware of the system creating it. The music fills the space warmly and evenly at a level that supports browsing and conversation without competing with either. The hardware is genuinely difficult to locate even when you know it is there. Speaker integration into the ceiling and wall surfaces achieved the level of visual discretion the space required, and the calibration ensures the system sounds as considered at quiet ambient levels as it does at any other setting. For a brand whose entire identity is built around refinement and attention to detail, the audio environment is not a peripheral concern. It is part of the experience customers are buying into when they walk through the door. The system TES installed reflects that understanding and delivers on it every day the store is open.
